Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facility

Kjeldahl - Block Digester

Instrument Details

Make: Pelican Equipments
Specification:20 place block with auto-lift, 250 ml tubes (macro Kjeldahl), Scrubber system

Working Principle

Protein content in food sample is estimated by determining their nitrogen content and multiplying it with factor of 6.25. The sample is digested by heating it with concentrated sulphuric acid in the presence of salt and metal catalyst. Digestion converts nitrogen in all organic molecules to ammonia and is trapped in the form of ammonium sulphate. Ammonia is steam distilled and its concentration determined by titration.

1. Sample digestion or heating
2. Kjeldahl digestion
3. Protein content in food and feed samples

User Instructions

1. Sample should be finely ground
