AICSIP WORKSHOP DATA 2005-06
Introduction
Introduction to be revised All India Coordinated Sorghum Improvement Trials (AICSIP), are conducted in the discipline of plant breeding, pathology, entomology, agronomy, sweet sorghum and physiology in both kharif and rabi seasons. The genotypes developed by the AICSIP centres in various state agricultural universities and private seed companies are evaluated under these trials for gain and fodder yield, other agronomic traits, biotic and abiotic stresses in initial yield trials at limited location spread over sorghum producing areas of the country. The genotypes showing superior performance in initial trials are evaluated for another two years under advance trials at many locations. Based on the three years data superior genotypes are released for all India cultivation.
In agronomy trials, appropriate sorghum based cropping systems are developed and new technologies in this field are advocated to the farmers. Beside evaluating high yielding genotypes for disease and pest resistant integrated pest and disease management practices are evaluated. New technologies like use of new insecticide and fungicides are tested in AICSIP trials and suitable insecticide/fungicide are recommended to the farmer.
The superior genotypes are evaluated for 3 years before making any releases for All-India cultivation. Such genotypes are under BSP programme produced in large quantity and are brought to seed chain system. New technologies developed under various disciplines are demonstrated at field-level.
